Eyes Open a Little Longer

This afternoon while Tara was spending time in the hospital room, Tania kept her eyes open longer than Tara had seen in two and a half weeks. Later this afternoon after Tara went home, I also spent time with Tania when she had her eyes open for approximately 30 minutes. Although she was not tracking movement in the room yet, we were both excited to see her progress.

Dr. Prall is weening her off of the lumbar drain and is hopeful that the internal shunt has cleared sufficiently to start working again to drain the brain fluid without further surgery. Tania will have CT scans every two days to monitor the size of her ventricles. If it is determined that the drain is not working, then another surgery will be necessary to replace the clogged sections of the shunt.
