Lumbar Drain

Dr. Prall ordered CT scans last night and again this morning. Tania's ventricles (brain fluid storage area) were still enlarged and he determined the external brain drain that was put in while she was in the ER yesterday was no longer functioning. He put in a lumbar drain this morning to relieve the fluid pressure. The lumbar drain is a tube that is inserted directly into the spinal cord a couple inches above the waist line. The fluid circles the spinal cord and the brain, so the lumbar drain is another way to help relieve the pressure.

The current plan is to wait 2-3 days to allow her to stabilize and drain some of the fluid before there are any additional procedures scheduled. We asked the Dr. what our next 7 days looked like. Tania has not followed any script, so he will be observing her and taking it one day at a time.
