The temporary external drain that was relieving pressure from Tania's brain for the past two weeks was reinstalled at about 7:30 p.m. Dr. Guiot was able to use the same opening as the first drain after it had approximately 32 hours to be cleared of any infections. This approach was less stressful on Tania than a new location would have been.
Dr. Prall (the surgeon that performed the original surgery) returns from vacation tomorrow and will be evaluating when he can place the permanent interior drain (shunt) from Tania's brain to her stomach. Hopefully, this will be the final procedure before she can be moved downtown to the long term acute care hospital for rehab. Please pray for a successful surgery to place the permanent shunt. Thank you.
